Founded in 1981, Helsinki's Winter Circus is a cultural institution — a family show, based each year on a different theme, which attracts some 32,000 people over two months of performances. At the end of each season, ticket sales are around 92-95%. The organisation behind the Circus, Tanssiteatteri Hurjaruuth, also runs outreach projects, its own circus school, and a women's clown festival.

Key Ideas
Attention to detail has a multiplying effect

Pisko emphasises the attention to detail the team put into the Winter Circus experience, from the show itself to the posters, the interactions with people buying tickets, and so on. Going the extra mile on, for instance, designing and decorating the Circus' foyer creates a better experience for the audience but also makes it much more likely they'll take their own pictures there and add to the online buzz around the show.
